Montana State College Enrollment
1953
In the wake of World War II, college enrollment was on the rise in the U.S. Boots and Eric were strongly in favor of Norm continuing his education, and they had big aspirations for their son. They quietly saved $1,000 to support Norm should he choose to attend college.
Norm had saved $500 on his own through odd jobs, which combined with his parents' support was enough to enroll at Montana State College in the fall of 1953. Norm rented a basement apartment at 410 West Dickerson Street. He picked up where he'd left off in Winifred, shoveling snow and mowing lawns for the neighbors to make ends meet.
