Academic Accommodations

In order for faculty (course instructors) to provide reasonable accommodations to individual students in a course  different from the established syllabus there must be legal documentation supporting the action. MSU's Office of Disabiity Services (ODS), serves this role for the university, providing access to all college programs, services, activities and facilities for students with disabilities.

If you are an incoming or current student who is not yet registered with ODS but would like to request accommodations, please logonto Accommodate and complete the Student Intake (you will need your NetId and password). On the lefthand side click  Accommodation & Information Requests then click Accommodation Requests.

This process supports students who with the help of a medical doctor have determined it is necessary to activate Section 504 of the Rehabiitation Act of 1973  and Title II of the Americans with Disabiities Act of 1990. All of this information may be found on MSU's Office of Disabiity Services website.

After Registering and Estabishing Accommodations...

  1. Meet with each of your instructors during their office hours in the first week of classes.
  2. Present accommodation notification documenting accommodations approved by the Office of Disability Services (ODS)
  3. Discuss with your instructor how adjustments/modifications will be implemented in the classroom, in the laboratory, and in the field - as appropriate.
  4. If there are potential barriers to accessing materials, activities and assessments, or safety concerns should be navigated with the support of ODS.
  5. It is expected that students with accommodations have the same responsibility for their education as students without accommodations. All students are expected to follow the student conduct and instructional guidelines.

What faculty/instructors can and cannot do...

  1. Faculty/instructors can provide reasonable accommodations if they have been established by ODS.
  2. Faculty/instructors cannot provide reasonable accommodations if they have not been estabished by ODS.
