Research Opportunities
Our graduate students partner with faculty to conduct world-class research. Visit our research webpage to see the latest news on our research discoveries, research-related awards and funding, and the impact our research is having on the world.
Among other things, our graduate students design radiation-tolerant computers that are launched into space, improve constructed wetlands that treat wastewater at our local ski resort, and help develop new methods of diagnosing malaria and other diseases.
Our research entities include unique facilities such as the Subzero Research Laboratory and Magnetic Resonance Laboratory, interdiscplinary groups such as the Thermal Biology Institute and Center for Biofilm Engineering, and more.
Funding Opportunities
Most of our incoming graduate students are funded with teaching assistantships for at least their first year. During that period, they connect with faculty and typically receive research assistantships for the remainder of their graduate studies.
The engineering college offers a Benjamin Fellowship that provides a stipend of $25,000 for a first year of Ph.D. study. For more details see the college's graduate funding opportunities webpage.
Departments may offer some graduate student scholarships as well. Students apply for these scholarships after they have been admitted to a graduate program. More information is available on the college's scholarship webpage.
Applicant Requirements
Requirements such as minimum GPA and test scores vary by program. Visit the departments' graduate program webpages (listed below) to learn more. Requirements are also listed when an applicant has set up an account and begun the application process through the Graduate School's online application.
