An NACOE Guide for Faculty-Led Leading Study Abroad Experiences
Supporting student engagement with global experiences
Overview
The International Engineering Certificate program, administered by the College of Engineering, encourages a computer science or engineering major to gain an appreciation of the global environment into which he or she will graduate.
A student who pursues the certificate should be more marketable upon graduation, as well as a better global citizen. Earning the certificate, which appears on a student's transcript, is a step towards becoming a global computer scientist or engineer: someone who can live, work and perform anywhere.
There are three basic requirements for earning the International Engineering Certificate. First, a student must be earning a bachelor’s degree from the College of Engineering. Second, a student must pick a country or region of the world as an international focus and complete relevant language courses through 201 with a grade of C- or better. Alternatively, students can select other courses related to language, culture, history, geography, society, business and/or international institutions focus. A grade of C- or better must be earned. Finally, a student must complete a study, work, or service experience in the relevant country or region while a student at MSU. A minimum of two weeks is required, but longer is recommended.
If you're a faculty-member in the engineering college and thinking about supporting students by leading a 2+ week study abroad experience, this webpage will help guide the process.
