Distinguished Professor Award
The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering Distinguished Professorship recognizes and honors the accomplishments of outstanding faculty members in the college. NACOE department heads nominate faculty, without the participation of the nominees and, to the extent possible, without their knowledge as well.
A faculty member named to a NACOE Distinguished Professorship will receive an annual award of $5,000 per year for five years and will be expected to give an inaugural public lecture during the first year of the Professorship. Awardees will hold the title of Distinguished Professor and receive funding for a five-year term.
Eligibility
Tenured Professors in the College of Engineering may be nominated by their Department Heads.
Selection Criteria
NACOE Distinguished Professors will have:
- A sustained record of excellence in research,
- A sustained record of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring,
- A record of service to their profession, the State of Montana, or MSU,
- A record of integrating learning, discovery and engagement, and
- A record of mentoring students and faculty.
Nomination Process
The nomination shall be prepared and submitted by the department head. The nomination should address the criteria listed above and include the following:
- Letter of nomination from the department that should not exceed two pages; a
- Current curriculum vitae.

A selection committee appointed by the Dean will review applications.
