The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering Excellence in Advancing Diversity Award recognizes outstanding efforts to create, sustain, and/or grow diversity and inclusion efforts within the University community.  =The award consists of a $500 honorarium and is announced at the College’s Annual Awards Ceremony luncheon held in April. Anyone may nominate an individual for this award; an individual may not nominate himself/herself.   

Criteria

The Award is open to all faculty and staff engaged in advancing careers of underrepresented people and creating, maintaining, and/or championing diversity at Montana State University. 

Examples of activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Creating new curriculum aimed at broadening the participation of underrepresented students.
  • Extraordinary recruitment efforts of underrepresented people.
  • A record of excellence in mentoring underrepresented people.
  • A record of service dedicated to promoting diversity within the profession, the department or the college. 

Nomination Requirements

The required nomination packet should consist of the following materials:     

  • Nomination letter that includes a brief summary (limited to two pages) describing the accomplishments of the nominee relative to the criteria above.
  • One letter of support from any appropriate source (limited to two pages).

If nominations exceed the page limit noted, the Chair will remove the nomination from consideration.

Nominations are to be submitted electronically to the Dean’s Office (coedeansoffice@montana.edu).

The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean.
