Appealing Academic Suspension

Appeals are considered when students can document extraordinary circumstances beyond their control which impacted their studies. If you plan to appeal, carefully review the required documentation necessary for completing a Suspension Appeal Packet. The Suspension Appeal Cover Sheet is available in the “student documents” link on the Provost Office website, or by clicking on the highlighted link. Recognize that as the student you must take responsibility for preparing and gathering the necessary documentation for your appeal.

The process below will help you prepare suspension appeal documents. The expectation is you will follow this process.

  1. Review MSU’s Academic Suspension Policy.
  2. Complete the Suspension Appeal Cover Sheet for the Suspension Appeal Packet.  Please note: "GID" means your MSU Student ID.
  3. Complete the Intent to Register form online. Your Intent to Register will not be fully processed until after the Board meets.
  4. Meet with their academic department's professional academic advisor to prepare the required 2-semester plan.
  5. Complete the Appeal Document Preparation survey for the NACOE which includes:

          7. Contact NACOE Dean's Office (406-994-2272).

      1. Schedule an appointment with NACOE Assistant Dean, Dr. Jennifer Clark. (Face-to-face meetings are preferred, but virtual meetings are available.)
      2. Confirm suspension materials are prepared and provide an electronic copy for the Assistant Dean to review prior to meeting.
